What is your personal definition of success?
Success is multifaceted. It encompasses everything from happiness and inner peace to fulfillment and drive within my work. If I can make a positive mark on the world and change a person’s life through what I’m passionate about, then I’m successful. I also believe one’s reaction to failure can create success – The ability to acknowledge and learn from your mistakes defines success.
What was your first job and what did you learn from it?
My first job was working as a camp counselor at a local day camp in my community. It taught me the importance of leadership and responsibility that comes with taking care of others. As a teenager, my young campers looked up to me as a role model and my ability to positively impact their summer and leave a lasting impression on them was really important. Just like any first job, I learned how to be present and put one hundred percent of myself into every situation, no matter what I was doing.
What is something you wish you had known when you were beginning your career?
While my career is just beginning, there is always going to be something I can take with me and learn moving forward. For me, my focus has always been in fashion, so it was easy choosing a career path. My mind is always on the next step and where I ultimately want to be. I don’t necessarily think that’s a bad thing, but I think it’s important for me to be a sponge and absorb as much as possible and learn from everything and everyone I come in contact with. It’s all about being able to grow from each experience and living in the moment.
What does the term 'job satisfaction' mean to you?
To me, this question leads back to my definition of success. Job satisfaction is a combination of passion, drive, happiness, and fulfillment. I don’t ever want to say I’m “satisfied” with my job. I want to always wake up and be hungry to achieve more.
Any other thoughts or words of wisdom to share?
I’m the biggest believer in doing what you love. Life is short and you have to live each day with passion and drive. Don’t be afraid to follow your dreams – if you fail, get back up, try again, learn from what you’ve done and take that with you to get to where you want to be.
